Emily Joy Brede (nee Hausler)

03/01/1977 — 03/21/2020

Emily Joy Brede smiling with her son for a photo

Emily Joy Brede (Hausler) smiles down on us today from Heaven.

A mom before all else, Emily’s life was a gift of joy to her four children Sydney Joy, Nolan Elliott, Landry Ryan and Emmett Blair, her husband Blair, her parents Jim and Cathy Hausler, her brother Brad, her sister Amanda, her Auntie Pam, her nieces and nephews, her cousin Kenny, her grandmother Jo and a lifetime of friends who truly love her.

Emily was a marathoner (Idiots Running Club), a special education teacher, a graduate of BGSU and Lakewood High School, a proud member of “The Compound” and a superfan at her children’s sports. She loved to listen to music, play paintball, watch movies, a glass of wine by a campfire and playing board games. Emily did NOT like to be chased or tickled! :). But above all, Emily loved being “Mom” to Sydney, Nolan, Landry and Emmett.

We are blessed because Emily’s greatest gift was given to us every single day. Her ability to make everyday moments silly, memorable, and joyful leaves us a lifetime of memories to celebrate her smile, her laugh, her love. We shall never doubt that God loves us, because He gave us Emily.

Emily recently smiled and said she hopes there is a way, when she is gone, to play tricks on us, like flickering the lights, to let us know she is still here with us, watching over. We love you “Mom”. May our lights always flicker.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jeff Monreal Funeral Home.

We feel so incredibly blessed that our lives intersected because of flag football and AAU basketball. Emily was – and will continue to be – a light of joy and inspiration to our family and all who were blessed to know her. Praise God for the promise of heaven and a beautiful reunion that we will all have with Emily someday. ❤

  4. I met mrs. Brede when I was in kindergarten with her daughter and she came to the Halloween party dressed as Cinderella she lit up the whole room when she stepped foot in it. Sydney has that same ability, I know her energy will live on. ❤️

My fondest memories of Emily involve every Thanksgiving she’d always greet me with that big beautiful smile and hug. We usually only saw each other once per year but that laugh and charisma will always be one of my fondest memories of her. I simply can’t believe that she’s truly gone and my heart just aches for her children, her brother and sister, Auntie Pam and of course, for Cathy and Jim. May the lord wrap his arm tightly around you during this time. Something that made me smile today was thinking that her grandma met her with her famous kielbasa at the gates of Heaven today

I met Emily shortly after starting middle school. She and her BFF, Gwen became part of our BFP, which was a club of 4 best friend couples that lasted throughout our time at Harding. Emily was the sweetest girl; always smiling, laughing and could always make you feel better no matter what was wrong. In high school, our groups changed, but we always had fun when we were together. My heart goes out to her family and friends. She was a light to everyone around her.

  13. Rest in peace, princess of the Mertus/Hausler/Brede clan. She was aptly named with the middle name of joy because that’s what she was-a joy bringer to all that knew and loved her. Peace and comfort I pray for all loved ones left behind, especially her four children, her mom and dad Cathy & Jim, brother Brad and sister Mandy. Emily’s smile will live in all our hearts forever. Keep all the memories alive and hold them dearly.

When we were young our families spent many weekends together playing games and enjoying dinners. I remember Emily fondly. She was sweet, joyful, and true. I am glad I was able to know her and call her my friend. I wish peace for the Hausler family and please know my thoughts are with you. Sending love and hugs during this difficult time.
